Rye Tech and Repairs

Hastings, East Sussex

Broken electronics or mechanical gear? I fix things properly — send it in.

Alongside software, I repair electronic and mechanical items under Rye Tech and Repairs — everything from small appliances and audio gear to mechanical devices with worn or broken parts. I'm based in Hastings and see clients in person across Hastings, Rye, and Eastbourne. UK-wide postal send-in repairs are also welcome.

Fill in the form below with details about your item. I'll get back to you by email with a repair assessment and instructions for sending it in.

All repairs come with a 60-day warranty.

What I Repair

I take on a wide range of electronic and mechanical repairs — the kind of things that are expensive to replace but straightforward to fix with the right experience. Here's a breakdown of what I work on regularly.

Games Consoles

Consoles are one of the most common items I see. Whether it's a PS4 or PS5 with a broken HDMI port, an Xbox One or Xbox Series console that won't start, or a Nintendo Switch with a cracked screen or faulty joysticks — I can usually get them running again. Overheating is another frequent issue, fixed with a thorough clean and fresh thermal paste on the CPU. If your console sounds like a jet engine or shuts down unexpectedly, it almost certainly needs attention rather than replacement.

Mobile Phones

Cracked screens, failed charging ports, batteries that won't hold a charge — phone repairs are bread-and-butter work. I cover iPhone models from older generations through to recent releases, and Samsung Galaxy handsets across a wide range of models. If you're unsure whether I can help with your specific phone, just ask — it's usually worth finding out before writing it off.

Audio Equipment

I have a particular interest in audio gear, and it's work I find genuinely satisfying. Turntables with worn belts or faulty cartridges, amplifiers with crackling channels or blown components, and speakers with damaged drivers or crossovers are all things I've repaired. If you have a piece of audio equipment with sentimental or financial value, it's well worth getting it assessed before writing it off — these items are often far cheaper to fix than to replace.

Small Domestic Appliances

If it plugs in and has stopped working, there's a good chance I can help. Small kitchen appliances, desk fans, lamps, and similar items often fail for straightforward reasons — a blown fuse, a failed switch, or a broken cable — that are inexpensive to fix once diagnosed. Repairing rather than replacing is also the more sustainable option, and usually much quicker than waiting for a delivery.

Mechanical Devices

Not all repairs are electronic. I also work on mechanical items with worn or broken parts. If the mechanism has seized, a gear has stripped, or a spring has failed, it's worth a conversation. This is a more open-ended category by nature, so the best approach is to describe the item and the fault in the form below and I'll let you know if it's something I can take on.

Other Electronics

The list above isn't exhaustive. If you have something that doesn't fit neatly into a category — a piece of vintage test equipment, a retro gadget, a musical instrument with electronics, or something unusual — get in touch and I'll tell you honestly whether it's something I can tackle. If I can't help, I'll say so clearly rather than waste your time.

How the Send-In Repair Process Works

If you're not local to Hastings, Rye, or Eastbourne, the postal send-in service makes the repair just as accessible. Here's how it works from start to finish.

  1. 1

    Submit a repair request

Fill in the form at the bottom of this page with your name, contact email, and a description of the item and the fault. Photos are helpful if the damage is visible — include them if you can. The more detail you give, the more accurate my initial assessment will be.

  2. 2

    Receive an assessment and quote

I'll review your request and get back to you by email — usually within one working day. I'll give you an honest assessment of what I think the fault is, what the repair involves, and a price for the work. There's no obligation at this stage, and I won't start any work until you've confirmed you're happy to proceed.

  3. 3

    Send the item in

If you'd like to go ahead, I'll confirm the postal address and give you packaging guidance. For phones and tablets, a padded envelope is usually sufficient. For consoles and heavier items, a double-walled box with foam padding is recommended. Please use a tracked postal service so you can confirm it's arrived safely.

  4. 4

Repair completed and confirmed with you

Once I have the item, I'll carry out a full bench assessment and confirm the repair scope before starting. If the fault turns out to differ from the initial description, I'll contact you with an updated quote rather than proceed without your sign-off. You'll receive an email when the repair is done.

  5. 5

    Item returned via tracked courier

When the repair is complete, I'll pack the item securely and return it via a tracked courier service. You'll receive tracking details by email as soon as it's dispatched. Most items are returned within a day or two of the repair being finished.

How to Send Your Item

If you're not local to Hastings, Rye, or Eastbourne, here's what you need to know to get your item to me safely.

Packaging tips

  • Wrap the item in at least two layers of bubble wrap.
  • Use a rigid outer box — double-walled cardboard for consoles or anything fragile.
  • Fill any gaps with foam padding or scrunched paper to prevent movement.
  • Mark the outer box clearly with "Fragile" to encourage careful handling in transit.

Recommended couriers

  • Royal Mail Tracked 48 or Tracked 24 — reliable and affordable for most items.
  • Parcelforce — good for larger or heavier parcels.
  • DPD — excellent tracking and fast delivery for high-value devices.

What to include in the package

  • A note with your repair reference number from the confirmation email.
  • A brief description of the fault in case any details need clarifying on arrival.

Most repairs are completed within 2–5 working days of receiving the item, depending on parts availability. You'll receive email updates throughout.

Warranty and Guarantee

Every repair carried out under Rye Tech and Repairs comes with a 60-day warranty as standard. This covers the specific fault that was repaired — if the same issue recurs within 60 days of collection or delivery, I'll look at it again at no charge. The warranty applies equally to in-person repairs for customers in Hastings, Rye, and Eastbourne, and to postal send-in repairs from anywhere in the UK.

I also operate a no-fix-no-fee policy for most repairs. If I assess your item and find it can't be fixed — or if the cost of parts makes the repair uneconomical — you won't be charged for the assessment. I'll explain clearly what I found and give you an honest recommendation on the best next step, whether that's sourcing parts from elsewhere or simply knowing when something isn't worth saving.

The warranty doesn't cover accidental damage that occurs after the repair has been returned, liquid damage that wasn't present at the time of the repair, or faults unrelated to the original repair. If you're ever unsure whether something is covered, just get in touch and I'll give you a straight answer.

Clayton was professional throughout. He was clear when messaging about being able to fix the fault on an iPhone. He ordered the part promptly. He messaged to tell me what he found when working on the phone. He even put a screen cover on for free as he had a spare one. The drop off and collection from his address was simple. And he took card payment in person. Would definitely use again. Five stars!

I gave Clayton my PS5 to get its HDMI port replaced and he did a great job, a couple problems arose but he kept me updated throughout and also cleaned the console. Great job, Class guy.
